Christine is responsible for Aberdeen City Council’s Museums and Galleries service which operates Aberdeen Maritime Museum, the Tolbooth Museum and Provost Skene’s House. With over 30 years experience in the cultural sector, Christine is currently leading two major capital developments –a new build project to create a Museums Collections Centre in Granitehill and a £30M capital scheme to refurbish and redevelop Art Gallery and Cowdray Hall.
Christine’s talk will focus on the Art Gallery project and she will explain the decisions behind the new designs and illustrate some of the major changes and improvements.
Originally from Glasgow, she moved to Aberdeen in 1983 to take up a new post of Keeper (Applied Art) with responsibility for developing a mixed decorative art collection including costume, textiles, jewellery, ceramics and metalwork. Christine’s areas of specialist interest are metalwork, jewellery and Aberdeen silver.
Christine holds an MA (Hons) in Scottish History and Medieval History, is an Associate of the Museums Association, a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and a Burgess of the City of Aberdeen.
